I visited with Gov Lester Maddox of Georgia before he passed away and shook hands with Gov George Wallace twice. I also knew and talked with the brother of some infamous person who has been in the news as of late but passed away 14 years ago and another person who may be consider famous or infamous depending on your view point:whistle:.
I may let that out later. Anyhow let us know who you knew famous or infamous, etc. Thank you, thank you very much

I have known and dealt with many sports figures since I was a child but those people mean nothing to me.
I have worked on A.J.Foyts systems on several of his car and motorcycles dealerships and three of his ranches. He by the way is an absolute AHOLE, pays well but a real ASS.
I have met several well-known musicians and actors over the years none that meant much to me but "famous" people really do not mean much to me.
When I was young I dated a girl that was a minor character in The Urban Cowboy, two that were cheerleaders for the Oilers in the mid 70's and one Playboy playmate June or Jul off 1977 or 1978.
I did get to meet and spend two hours with John Wayne when he was making The Hellfighters, he knew my father from WWII. My dad drove an ambulance in Fort Worth while in high school during the war, when stars came to town on bond tours ambulance drivers drove them around. He spent several days driving the Duke around and when he was in Houston during filming my dad called him. I got to spend two hours with the Duke now that was a big deal and I was in absolute AWE. The Duke was great very nice and friendly made a point to include me in the conversation.

Nice contribution there AC, perhaps you can explain your bewilderment with a reasonably concise post by classic. What gives?

There are some very interesting Canadians Glenn; one I always wanted to meet was the gentleman that wrote a song/letter to the American people back in the 60's. It was all about the benevolence of the American people to all of the peoples of the world in times of strife. Hearing it always made me feel terrific about our country.
Come to think of it Printer is an interesting person I would sit down to lunch with him, you also of course.

Try reading the entire post regarding John Wayne. "served" was used loosely. It was during the war doing war related activities, selling war bonds. You can't fight a war without money. Not a true sacrifice, but still very important. It was a War Bond tour and the guy's father was an ambulance driver that was driving these guys around.

Arguably one of the best comedy shows ever made. As mechanics or techs, our opinion on this will be seriously biased. Red Green spends his time at 'the lodge' and takes on all sorts of man-projects. Often involving duct-tape, "the handyman's secret weapon". I know you like cinema, this is worth renting a season if you do that sort of thing. Some folks like it, some HVAC guys just love it. I do. I actually used to work with a guy who had red/green one each suspenders just as the show's main character. It is a show about manhood. Sort of, I guess.

Is Red Green the guy who says " if you can't be handsome at least you can be handy?". If that is the guy we use to get a good laugh from his show. I had Jarod the Subway guy over for dinner a few years back. My brother in law was his PR guy and they were in town. Really nice guy. He loved real Buffalo wings and pizza.

Back in the early 60's my Grandfather worked for the Sheriffs dept. in Houston, and we always got into the Rodeos at the Sam Houston Coliseum for free, and always had great seats. It was actually at one time called the "Houston Fat Stock Show". I shook hands with Chuck Connors, Roy Rogers, James Arness, Eddie Arnold, couple more I can't remember but I was like 10 to 12 years old. I used to Love riding in the old Salt Grass trail ride from Brenham, Tx. into Houston, into Memorial Park back in the 60's. At one time my Dad was the President of the Salt Grass trail riders association, man to turn back the clock to those days, I think I would give an arm. :grin2:

Wow! Some of you guys have really rubbed elbows with true American icons. The closest I ever got to The Duke is there are a few little watering holes out around Maricopa where local legend says he used to hang out. So I guess I might possibly have had a beer on the same stool, bellied up to the same bar, as John Wayne. Maybe.
This past year I met Herman Cain and both the former and current Las Vegas Mayors Goodman.
Forgot one.... my 8 year old daughter got a form letter from the President.

Al, my "rich" aunt and uncle "we were Po Folks" bought my cousin and I tickets to see the Beatles in the Sam Houston Coliseum back in 1965, I think the tickets were like $5-$7 something like that. We sleep in line all night long in sleeping bags, and they brought us food. Great concert, the only problem was you could not hear one word the Beatles were singing for all the screaming. They did not have the kind of equipment back then they do now days. I bet my cousin in Alabama probably still has her ticket stub, I gave mine to a Charity Auction for the "The Sunshine Kids" kids with cancer, out at Wild Bill's on Kuykendahl, when it was wild Bill's, it sold for over $300.00. I hated to part with it, but it was for a good cause, and the topper was, the person that bought it, gave it back to the auction to sell it again.
Yes Kitterik and Cadet Don, wow the memories, I think Kitterik was on Channel 13, heck Dave Ward was probably working there back then, he has been there for about as long as I can remember.

Regardless of what “some” will try to imply, I will tell of this interesting encounter. I met Jerry Ray in 1980 in Georgia. Jerry’s brother was James Earl Ray. Jerry was not exactly unblemished having served time in prison for robbery himself.
I had to ask him about his brother serving a life sentence at Brushy Mt. State Prison in Tenn. He didn’t comment on the killing of King or his flight to avoid capture but commented on James’ escape from prison with several others back in 77.
James was the last one caught after being on the lamb for three days. He said that James couldn’t get word out of the escape since it came down fast otherwise there would have been some “folks” waiting for him to whisk him away and of course he would have been there too. I found it interesting talking the brother of James Earl Ray. Thank you very much

In my hurry I forgot one important thing out that Jerry Ray told me. He said that James Earl Ray had killed before and for the "government". This is Jerry's story.
James was in the Army in 49 stationed in W Germany and got himself in a bind and was up for court marshall. The deal was that an officer told him that he would get him off the hook if he would "take care of" a Negro soldier who was causing a lot of trouble.
He did the deed and charges were dropped and he received an honorable discharge. This has since then also been reported in a book by another one of James Earl Ray's brothers. Jerry then claimed that James took out King for someone also and thought it was the FBI since J Edgar Hoover was trying his best at character assassination of King anyhow.
Hoover said (http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F10A17F9385E147A93CBA8178AD95F40 8685F9) this to reporters in November 1964 just before King went to accept the "Nobel Peace Prize". "Dr. Martin Luther King is the most notorious liar in the country." Interesting theory about the King assassination though. Wanted to finish the whole story there. Thank you, thank you very much

Hey Heathman, she grew up on Calhoun Street, just a few blocks from where I live... never met her.
Marina Navratilova: my only celebrity service call. Fixed her dishwasher in Va Beach.
Hope Anderson, Miss Louisiana: I ate supper with her at my sister's house 2 years ago, before she was crowned. She was a runner up last month in the Miss America. She's totally beautiful, inside and out.
Barbara Bush: she was sitting in first class on a commericial flight. All her security guys got on first, they were wearing the oversized jackets with big automatic hawg legs underneath.
Mark Hadsell, Challenger astronaut I went to school with.
Several more I'm sure, but famous people don't do much for me. Hope was the only execption to that!
