Obama's anti-drilling agenda was the worst possible solution to Gulf economic issues.

Funny and some folks will still vote for this guy. They must be truly Marxist or way off beam is all I can say. Hard to understand why otherwise. But I am willing to listen if anyone would care to explain:gah::.02:.

So the impact of the oil spill doesn't count for much and Katrina didn't REALLY cause any damage. Yea it is just irresponsible to go slow after the biggest oil spill the Gulf has ever seen. Maybe if we would just keep up with current events "The Marxist" might just disprove some preconceived notions. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2012/0126/Deep-water-oil-drilling-why-Obama-is-OK-with-angering-left-and-right

I'll say it right know that I will never lose a minute of sleep over any oil company losing any money or closing any doors. I guess if you worked for one of them it's time to find new work. Life goes on.

Hmmm...
I guess based on the wisdom of 'be careful'... that everyone should STOP going on cruise vacations... because one ship crashed and a couple dozen folks were killed. Lets not forget the HUGE number of folks who cruise every year.
And based on the reality of 911... everyone should NEVER fly again... because it is not safe.
How many folks have NEVER set foot on an airplane since 911 because it is not safe?
The same applies to oil production: Rather than see the glass half empty (the sign of someone who lives in fear); we need to look at the trillions and trillions of barrels of oil produced safely (the sign of rational business thinking).
There is NO risk free life. Any polecat who promises this is lieing through their teeth... and IMO anyone who believes it deserves what they get.

Sure Katrina did the damage and the oil spill can't even compare to that. The two are not comparable in any sense except in a liberal mind I guess.
The shutting down of the oil in the Gulf has cost us thousands of well paid jobs and billions in lost revenue and taxes.
Obama is hell bent on destroying our country and he is doing a good job so far and everyone who is supporting him now must like it. That is all I can say.

IMO BHO's view of jobs is: A tool to advance MY political career.
We as a people need to understand NO polecat (regardless of party or philosophy) cares about the citizens... all they care about is their careers. They only do things that make us feel good to get elected.
Take away the blind trust of polecats (as well as their only tool... spending others tax $$$'s to buy votes), and one will have a little sanity in govt.

Maybe I just don't understand, could someone explain to me why the President would want to destroy the country he is in charge of? Faux News and the righty's here seem to think there is some kind of plot by the majority (that's how elections work) of US citizens to cause harm to our country. Do you guys see how foolish this looks to the majority of the people living in this country. You might be right but from what I am hearing it all sounds like some kind of off the wall conspiracy theory - and the vast amount of people are not buying it. Even the opposition party can't make up its mind on how to combat the evil genius with a viable candidate.

No? Well, we'll see how they feel when Obama's three major initiatives so far, cap and trade, the stimulus package, and Obamacare will, in fact, not be featured in Obama's ads for re-election, but rather in the ads of his opponents as the exact reasons why he should not be re-elected.
It doesn't seem like a conspiracy to me to make some simple observations with regards to Obama's rather two-faced approach. Three years ago he called PAC donations "unamerican". He also claimed he would never accept such donations.
And now...
Is that a conspiracy or a bold face lie? Your call!

Might want to take an objective look at poplecats... they are ALL crooked (both parties and both philosophies).
And yes, there is lots of history of POTUS's who have passed legislation that was destructive to the country. BTW: As I have stated repeatedly: Does not matter which party or which philosophy... they are ALL crooked. The best thing for the country is not trust ANY of them... and verify EVERYTHING they say and do.
History and the facts do not lie... unless spin is the goal. And if spin is the goal... well truth and accountability became secondary... in which case IMO the person who's mind is mired in spin and untruth is not a safe person to have voting... as they would vote for personal gain at the expense of the country in a minute.

The question about PACs is just accepting the political reality that they will decide the election. The decision to make corporations = people is a philosophy of the right and was opposed by everyone else when the Supremes made the Citizens United ruling. Political shrewdness can be found on both sides of the aisle and usually is not equated with conspiracy or lying. Just look at the R primaries.

No, the issue about packs is a flip-flop politician doing whatever it takes to build their power base. Face it; BHO is no different than any other polecat.
IMO to believe anything else... is to be naive.
Ya know... the GOP primaries are an example of democracy at work: EACH person gets their fair chance, and each citizen gets to vote. I suppose you are going to tell me there is something wrong with this?

The whole PAC thing is kinda like his stance during the election on the deficit. Call GWB unpatriotic for the 4 trillion deficit he accumulated as president over 8 years. But by BHO's 2nd year as president he had accumulated the same figure (4 trillion) and as of now has exceeded that number.
How's that for hypocrisy......

We have VOTING here in the south... open, accountable, responsible VOTING; and it is allocated rather than winner takes all. Care to explain how this is good or bad... along with all the other things you have been asked to explain? Without explanations of your viewpoints... they do not carry much weight. Mitt Romney lived the American dream! He worked HARD, carefully and wisely invested the $$$, and now he can live off the interest. Are you saying this is bad? If so, please explain in detail. And would you trade places with him if you could?
Nothing hypocritical about this at all. The Declaration and the Constitution guarantee every person the same opportunity to make it on their own. The only folks I see who do not like this idea are the ones who want a free ride at someone else's expense. Care to explain why I should work to pay the way of someone else who does not want to work? Or why they should not have to work to eat? Sounds like buying votes to me... is your vote for sale? REALLY need you to address that last question; is your vote for sale?

Mittens worked so hard to make money that he forgot about the people working in those companies but I guess thats OK because HE made a profit. Being unemployed does not make a person worthless and lazy.
I just can't go along with the idea that success equals net worth, I make a very comfortable living and probably pay more taxes than most but that does not define my success. In your case I guess it does so that seems to end the discussion. By the way there ain't enough money in the whole Republican party to buy my vote.

He is unemployed in a sense that he made his money and was highly successful in his business ventures early in life. What's so wrong with that?????
When you say he could solve the unemployment problem since he has a nice bank account sounds like another spread the wealth situation. Are you saying he should give his money to all the unemployed???? Would you just give it away if you where in his shoes??????

I'm not running for president. I'm just saying he could solve the unemployment problem by being a job creator. I would hope a man of his intelligence and moral standing could find a way to form a profitable company that could employ all of the folks looking for a job. Just keep repeating the Republican mantra "tax cuts for the rich create jobs by giving them more money to invest"

And the Democratic mantra is " tax the rich more so they will cut jobs, lower wages and close companies" cause that is typically what happens. How does that make any sense. Can you show me where taxing the rich more created jobs?????
Without the rich getting tax breaks they don't start new companies. There needs to be incentive for someone to shell out the dough and take the risk.... There is a big difference between successful businesses and charities....

Then why doesn't Mittens solve the unemployment problem by creating a bunch of jobs? He would be sure to get elected! If he does not have incentive to create jobs yet (with a net worth of 202M) a tax cut probably won't stimulate him to the point of actually hiring more people.

You don't know that he hasn't done exactly that as the only way to determine that would be to look at his portfolio. For all either of us know Mitt may well have already created many jobs with his investments.
202 mil isn't just sitting stagnant. At least, that would be my guess.

Nothing in his tax returns would indicate any large divestitures of cash to create jobs. When will people realize that the only trickle down effect they will experience is when you wait too long to go? It is a failed policy that may have sounded good 30 years ago but in practice doesn't seem to bear fruit.

Nothing in his tax returns would indicate any large divestitures of cash to create jobs. When will people realize that the only trickle down effect they will experience is when you wait too long to go? It is a failed policy that may have sounded good 30 years ago but in practice doesn't seem to bear fruit.
Um, no. You don't get the required information from a tax return. A tax return does not tell you HOW he's invested, just what returns were made.
Further, what you call "trickle down" is a term that is no longer used. Why? Because the dopes in Washington were using it wrong; I know that comes as a shock to us all.
The proper terms for the two types of limited vision economies that used to be discussed were "Supply Side" and "Demand Side" economy. The problem here was that they argued which was was right and which one was wrong.
There is no right or wrong about it. Each has its place in any given economic plan long-term. The issue around which one is correct AT THE TIME is based on whether you need to stimulate the economy, or stabilize one that is already doing well.
Finally, I would just like to point out that Obama's stimulus package was the largest and most expensive piece of "trickle down" ever proposed and enacted.
With all due respect, you're not exactly sounding like a financial pro here, not that I'm one either, but still. :)

To the best of my knowledge, reported income has to show it's source on federal tax forms, the same holds true for losses deducted. By seeing the sources of both it is pretty easy to determine where his money is. So getting back to my original premise how does providing more money to the top 1% by tax cuts or any other means provide a better economic climate for the other 99%? I stand by my hypothetical solution to unemployment - Mitt just needs to create 12.8 million jobs with his resources thereby bringing the unemployment level to zero, he would then be a shoe in for president with the ability to cut his own taxes which would perpetuate the gravy train. Sounds like a win - win to me.

Are you in the market by chance?
You don't report anything except REALIZED gains. In a lump sum as interest income.
You do NOT report HOW you are invested as that would be silly. You may have just purchased stock which has yet to show realized gain, and thus is not considered.
Mitts gains could well be from high-risk start ups that now show profit for him and taxes and jobs for the US.
A TAX RETURN WILL NOT TELL YOU THIS.
Period.

I never said he was. All I said was that to make that determination one would have to see the details of his portfolio. Certainly NOT his tax return.
Bottom line, neither you or I know. Nor will we.

Absolutely, but he and others undoubtedly have the wealth to do something good for this country with unemployment at 8.3%. I don't think 1 or 2 percent more or less in his yearly income will make a difference in his plans for hiring.

If you were running a co that was loosing $$$ because your labor costs were too high... here are your choices:
1) Lower labor costs by putting 'some' of the folks out of work... or
2) Let the co go broke and ALL the folks loose their jobs.
So which one is better; some jobs go away, or all the jobs go away.
AS usual; folks have drunken the BHO koolaid... rather than think for themselves.
I am not going to comment on your personal situation... as I do not know the details. I do suspect you put in a reasonable amount of work for the $$ you receive as compensation... or the boss would replace you with someone that was more productive (the way it works).
Hey, I know... lets adopt a communistic system like Russia used to have... A few % of the folks are filthy rich and well over 90% of the folks are dirt poor. Think that is a good idea?

Whether someone is running for POTUS is not the question asked:
The question is: If YOU were in Mitt's shoes; would YOU give away all your $$$ to the folks who are not motivated enough to get a job... thus leaving yourself broke and needing to go back to work? TRUTHFUL answer her guy... :)

Then why doesn't Mittens solve the unemployment problem by creating a bunch of jobs? He would be sure to get elected! If he does not have incentive to create jobs yet (with a net worth of 202M) a tax cut probably won't stimulate him to the point of actually hiring more people.
Jobs do not grow on trees. There has to be a NEED to hire someone to do something.
Now tell me this: You (salty) have $100M in the bank, drawing $2.5M annually in interest income, that you pay tax on (using all the existing tax rules you can to avoid paying any more than you have to... like everyone else does).
Tell me what you will do to create jobs? Be specific... tell me the procedure to create these jobs.
It is easy to 'arm-chair QB'... not so easy when one has to actually come up with a plan and make it work.
SO: Anyone here: If you have a plan (which has a definable and traceable track record in history of ACTUALLY CREATING JOBS)... that is, without running up more deficit spending... please explain it to us.

Lets talk a little about 'job creation':
I am walking down the street one day and I see someone struggling to lift boxes off a truck, carry them to a stairway, and carry them up to the second floor where the customer needs the product in the boxes.
I watch this labor happening and I think: Gee, I think I have a way to make this less tiring and in the process move more boxes with less effort (and maybe in less time).
So I think and think and think... and come up with what we now call a 'dolly' or a 'two-wheeler' or a 'hand truck'. After this mental inspiration... I go to a coffee shop and talk to my buddies and we sketch this thingy out on a napkin (Compaq computer co was started on a napkin, and sold to HP for a HUGE bundle). After about 50 paper napkins we have the design figured out.
Now I need some investment capital to rent a building, equip it with machinery, buy materials, and oh yes... HIRE WORKERS (jobs). I go out and talk to investment capital folks (generally called 'venture capital' folks.
They carefully look over my idea, but MOSTLY they look over my business plan... which is the carefully thought out progression of how much it will cost to get this gadget into production... AND: the PROOF I can sell these gadgets to folks and make enough $$$ to pay my bills, pay back their loan with sizable interest, and make a profit large enough to make this entire business worth me quitting my day job (with all its security).
The venture capitalist will ONLY loan out the $$$ (which is the seed to create the jobs) ONLY if there is a CLEAR business plan that will provide a nice return on investment.
So you see: YES; venture capitalists create jobs... but ONLY if there is a return on investment.
After all... it is THEIR $$$ to do with as they please. And if the govt tries to tell them how to spend it... well they move to a different country where the govt will leave them alone. And the hand trucks are made in that other country and imported... thus the jobs as well as the profits are NOT available to the country where the govt tried to meddle in private enterprise.
Now that we understand 'trickle down 101'... If any of you have a better way for someone with lots of bucks to create jobs? I am listening... :)

I agree with what GA is saying here. There is no sure path to job creation and you certainly don't do it with a handful of cash. Too risky for one thing.
Simply, it is upon the American entrepreneur to convince the wealthy that it is worth their time to award one with what they call venture capitol. To place the burden upon the wealthy to come up with some sort of plan out of the blue is silly, and not only that, such a plan would only have narrow vision because no matter how smart you are, creative ideas aren't something that you can just churn out at will. It is better then to have a lot of bright minds and ideas compete for the available capitol; then you have a breeding ground of fresh and innovative ideas that never stagnates.
To look upon the wealthy as the ones responsible to drive this process is a rather bass ackwards view in my opinion.

Your call!
Yet we still have not addressed the other issues BHO campaigned on in 2008... which have turned out to be WRONG thinking.... and thankfully were not enacted into law.
Care to SPECIFICALLY address each issue in detail, explaining why they were good ideas at the time... and why they turned out to NOT be good ideas now... While you are at it... how about you explain (again in detail) the reasons behind the change in position on those specific ideas.
Seems to me the issues which affect one's life is not important in this discussion... Care to explain why I should vote for someone who continues to pass legislation which makes my life more expensive and less productive than it used to be?
Folks who believe in the founding documents (Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights... and to a lesser degree the amendments) are also called traditional or true Conservatives; we understand there are basic principles which make societies and economies work... and these basic principles do not change much. Polecats think changing everything (supposedly for good causes, in reality for personal gain) is the way to go... and they seem to come up with endless spin reasons to do all this changing. There are TRUE conservatives and polecats each, in both parties... IMO we need to sort them out and discard the polecats.
At the end of the day... seems to me all this changing seems to do nothing more than take $$$$ out of my pocket and add stress to my life. I want the govt to leave me alone... so there will be less stress in my life. Care to explain why govt taking my $$$ and creating more stress in my life is a good thing?

So I have learned:
1. Government cannot promote job growth
2. Individuals create jobs when there is demand
3. Obama is a failure because he did not promote job growth
4. Tax cuts for the rich will make the middle class spend more money thereby creating demand
5. Greediness is next to godliness
6. If you cannot afford to pay for medical care just die already
7. Osama Bin Ladin was not really killed by a Dem president
8. Democrats want us all on welfare for some reason
9. The current president is not a citizen or a christian.
